What Sins are Hiding in Your Heart?

Sunday, September 23, 2018

Hey guys! Happy Sunday!

I just want to start off by saying I am SO SORRY for being gone for so long! "Weekly Blessings" has been M.I.A. since April and I am so ashamed that I let it go that long. But I'm going to try my best to get things together because in the world we're living in right now, things like "Weekly Blessings" are needed badly.

But, on to this week's blessing....

I love the Bible plans on YouVersion! They keep me engaged and on track with a particular topic that I want to learn about, so they're extremely helpful to me. I browsed through some of the plans about a month ago and I found this particular plan called "Sinful Roots in the Heart."

"Sinful Roots in the Heart" is a Bible plan by Julie Gossack that explores those deep, hidden issues in your heart that fuel some of the biggest obstacles in your Christian walk. Why do you keep struggling with the same sin? Why do you continue to feel sad and depressed? Why are you angry? This Bible plan helps uncover that.

They cover things like anger, fear, despair, bitterness, and more! I'm telling you, this plan slapped me all in my face! I don't want to get into extreme detail because I want you to go read it for yourself, but it's going to bless you, I promise.

The plan is only supposed to last about 12 days, but it's taken me over a month(I'm still working on it) because it has absolutely BLOWN MY MIND and caused me to do a TON of soul-searching. I LOVE plans that do that to me! I've literally had to sit and cry out to God about the topics they've covered because they exposed me to me. It was wonderful!

I say all that to say that everyone has at least one obstacle that they have tried over and over to move past and just can't seem to. "Church folks" like to judge them and say things like:

"Why does she have so many kids?"
"He's always smoking."
"He's always been a thief!"
"All that girl does is lie!"

But you may not realize this:

That woman with all of those kids was sexually assaulted as a child and feels that promiscuity equals acceptance.

That man is smoking because he is trying to distract himself from the pain of not being able to live up to his family's expectations.

The boy that steals may be bitter that he didn't have what he needed growing up, and that's his way of getting even.

That girl that lies all the time may feel like she has nothing good happening in her life and lies to make herself look and feel better.

You don't know what people are going through! And the interesting thing is, another person may be having the same exact heart issue as you, but it manifests differently. That's why we are charged to lead with love(1 Corinthians 6:14). And don't be ashamed of your own issues. Embrace them and call them out - not only will you be able to free yourself, but you don't know who you're helping in the process!

So, instead of listening with your head, listen with your heart. You'll get a lot more positive results that way, and you may start to notice some things about yourself.

I hope this week's blessing helped you!
