Origins of the Shmoney Dance

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Guess what, guess what, guess what?! My mom and I learned something new in the history of dance over the weekend! We learned the origins of one of the dances that is currently sweeping the nation right now: The Shmoney dance!

My mom and I were watching the Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration on TV One and noticed something very peculiar....Michael Jackson was doing the Shmoney dance! No, it wasn't a hologram and no I'm not crazy....he really was! The celebration was recorded back in 2003, but I guess the "Billie Jean" singer knew what was to come. Still don't believe me? I have proof!

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here is some background on the dance, the dance's founder Bobby Shmurda, and what the dance looks like. Watch closely, these are very complex moves lol:

Got it? You sure? Okay, now here's a clip from the Michael Jackson celebration. You can watch the whole thing if you want, but if you just want to see what I'm referring to, fast forward to 6:00

Did you see it? Didn't I tell you? That's the Shmoney! I bet you believe me now! Told you I wasn't crazy!

This video below is just a compilation of vine videos of people doing the dance that I thought was pretty funny. Check it out!

What do you guys think? Did Mike predict the future back in 2003? Do you like the dance? Why is his name Bobby Shmurda but it's called the Shmoney dance?

  18. Well I guess that would mean that they took it from Michael rather than him predicting the future, haha! Sneaky!

  20. Maybe Bobby Shmurda saw MJ do it growing up and it left an impression to him. Art is imitation after all.
