Welcome to week 4, you guys!!
This week I decided to take a different approach to Weekly Blessings and bring in some outside inspiration.
There is a phenomenal group called Good Morning Girls whose main purpose is to help ladies grow into unashamed, God-fearing women! They host Bible study sessions, create videos, host blogs......they just have a community of people who wish to grow and help others improve as well! I can say from personal experience that anybody who wants to check it out should really go for it, because they have been a great blessing to me!
I was reading through their blog yesterday morning and found something that ministered to me, and I wanted to share it with you guys.
In this post, the writer starts off by telling us about her running a half-marathon. She stated that, in the beginning, she really wasn't a runner, but then she realized that she may not see herself as a runner in the natural, but spiritually she actually is a runner, and so are all of us (Hebrews 12:1).
She gave ten things she learned as she trained for the marathon that are also very useful for our walks with God. I don't want to give the whole post away, so I'll just touch on a few of the points she made and how they can relate to the faith:
- You have to make time for it - Just like Angela said, "running doesn't just 'happen,'" we have to work at it. That's just like our walks with God. We can't just wake up one day and say,"I'm saved,so now my whole life is perfect." It requires work, and we have to make time for work. In order to start and maintain our relationship with God we have to make time for Him. We may not know what to say or how to say it at first, but you have to try (Hosea 10:12, Matthew 6:23, 2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
- There are no shortcuts - This is something that has always been controversial for some reason. Some people believe that good works will automatically get you into Heaven.....NO. Good works are all great and good, but if God isn't in the equation, it means nothing You HAVE to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9, Romans 6:23, John 3:16, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Acts 2:21). If you don't believe in Him, how do you expect to get into Heaven? You can't just go up to God on Judgement Day and say, "I never really believed in you, but I gave to charity and volunteered. That should be enough!" .....If you can't believe in the One that created the planet on which we live, created you, and allowed you to even have anything to give to those charities or time to volunteer at all those places, how do you expect to make it in? (Matthew 7:22-23, Luke 13:24-28)
- Make sure you stay hydrated - We have to stay in God's word every chance we get. We have to drink water or we'll have things like bad skin, weak hair, and low energy. The Bible works the same way. We constantly need wisdom and guidance to make our way through this crazy thing called life. Without the Bible, spiritually we will become weak and dried up (Psalm 1:1-4).
At the end of her post, Angela encourages Christians not to give up, to push forward and continue running your race. It will totally be worth it at the end to cross that finish line!
