Spirits: Fact or Fiction?

I was reading a post by a fellow blogger, who has since deleted her post, where she was discussing spirits and ghosts. I thought it was an interesting post, so I decided to give my take on the whole thing. This is just my opinion and I'm not attempting to force anything down anyone's throats. However, as shown in my previous posts, I am a Christian and not afraid to say it, so if you disagree with Christian beliefs or are easily offended, I would suggest you move on to another post, because this may not be for you.

Now that you've read my disclaimer, let's continue, shall we?

Like most people, I'm very skeptical of the whole ghost thing. However, I don't worry so much about having to see it. I don't play with that kind of stuff, but that's just me.I do believe in the spirit realm though.

From my personal research and concluding opinion, I do believe that spirits exist, but I believe that there are good spirits, as well as evil spirits. The main example that comes to mind in the Bible where evil spirits have taken to people would be Mark 5:1-20, where Jesus cast demons out of a man and put them into a group of pigs. Those spirits were demons, which were the angels that fell with Lucifer after his rebellion.

Personally, I wonder if there would have ever even been any evil spirits if Lucifer wouldn't have fallen. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, right?

Basically, in my mind evil spirits are demons, 'nuff said. All the ghost stories and the movies about hauntings and whatnot.....I honestly feel are just demonic habitations that people really shouldn't be messing with in the first place, cause you never know what you could be exposing yourself to (1 John 4:1).Man has just commercialized it and turned it into something far from what it really is. This was the way it was explained to me: God did not give us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7), so why would He even put things like ghosts and witches down here for us to be scared of? Because those things are not of God! That is just another creation of Satan.

Again, this is just some of what I've concluded from my research. I'm not saying that I'm right or wrong; it's simply my opinion. The spirit world is very complicated and tricky, and I'm not sure that nay of us will ever completely learn what it is all about until we get to Heaven and ask God about it.

  1. I believe you can invite both good and evil into your life. But ghosts? Don't believe in them.

  2. I couldn't get the links to work back to the originally mentioned post, so I hope these comments aren't duplicates of what she said. I really appreciate this post and it's thought provoking nature. Spirits, demons, and angels are very interesting topics and although the Bible mentions them often, we know very little about them. Obviously they existed during Christ's time and the early church. Beyond that we aren't really sure. John 4 mentions that miracles were done so that people would believe what Christ and the apostles were saying. Miracles validated them. Since the Bible is complete, Christ isn't here turning our beliefs upside down, and the apostles are all dead, there's no need for miracles today and it seems like that might go against Paul's warning in Galatians 1 (but I'm not sure). We are blessed with God's word to tell us of those wonders and signs. (Miracles being things that cannot be explained or cannot happen without God's direct involvement. Birth for example is amazing but it happens everyday as part of his original plan. Disastrous weather is amazing but again, it can be scientifically explained and happens regularly. Raising someone from the dead after day of being dead, someone being immediately healed within seconds, or making the crazy demon possessed cave dweller suddenly normal while sending pigs flying off a cliff are miracles that science can't explain and don't happen daily.) Now, it seems that demons were part of the miracles. And I wonder if now that there's no one or no need to un-possess people, then are demons around today? I've also wondered if demon possession and mental diseases/disorders are connected in anyway. I assume angels are still here because Hebrews 1:13 &14 says the minister to us (whatever that means). And we know Satan walks about like a roaring lion. Like I said, it's all quite complicated. It seems to me that the most important thing to do is focus on God and let him take are of the spirit world. If you're looking for evil, you'll find it. If you're focused on good/God, that's what you'll see. Keep up the good work! I appreciate your thoughts and writings!

  5. I think it's just different forms of energy and how we interact with it determines if it is good or bad or if it is even perceived at all. I also think that when we leave our bodies if we refuse to give up our identity and merge back with our source or our creator then we might hang around for a while and go through a slow process of letting go. I also think love itself is another entity that sticks around. Our loved ones do not stop loving and that can be felt and even at times seen or heard. Just my opinion based on my experience, reading, etc.... :)

  6. I believe in positive and negative energy to a certain extent, but I don't believe there are people who have passed away dropping quarters and blowing out candles to let me know they are thinking of me.

  7. I honestly believe in spirits, both good and bad. I definitely can understand why people wouldn't believe in them, though.

  8. I don't really have a strong belief either way. Sometimes I don't want to believe in them, but I've heard stories and had things happen to me personally that make me believe otherwise.

    1. I agree. I kind of thing ghosts are just a man made idea that's been commercialized to scare people.

  16. There are many people who do not believe in ghosts but for those who have had experiences with them/ seen them there is no denying it. I feel that being able to sense spirits is an ability that some people have been given.

  17. This is very interesting to read! I believe in ghosts, but I do believe they can also be good or evil and that evil spirits are the ones that haunt and take on the forms of demons

  23. Hi friend! I couldn't agree more with you. Your post reminded me of a post I wrote awhile ago: http://livelovelaughdancepray.wordpress.com/2013/07/20/spiritual-warfare/

I do believe that there are demons, but not ghosts. The Bible instructs us too not to meddle in that business, if you will. When you seek out evil, it will consume you. Thank you for sharing this! And never apologize for your beliefs, or sharing what you think/believe in. This is your website, and you are allowed to share whatever you want. 2 Timothy 1:8 says, " So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God." (:
